about the artist

Jenny is a visual artist working primarily in watercolor and acrylic currently based in Denver, Colorado.

Originally from Los Angeles, she sought a change of scenery and studied Scenic Design and Art at Ithaca College. Upon graduating she moved to Philadelphia, PA where she designed and painted scenery for theater and film.

As the COVID-19 pandemic began its first wave Jenny was beginning to reconsider her theater career. While she enjoyed the variety of crafting and arts necessary to create theater, she found the physical demand draining and lack of representation unfulfilling. With the opportunity to explore her own creativity outside of theater Jenny found her pandemic solitude to be a reflective and rejuvenating time.

Jenny Hiyama now strives to spread kindness and make it easier for all of us to feel connected to our communities. She is no stranger to long distance support with family and friends stretching across the States, from Hawaii to Pennsylvania

about the work

My work is centered in the spread of kindness and community. Inspired by nature’s incremental growth and gentle coexistence, my work embodies the softness and the power in our ever-changing lives. I take comfort in knowing we do have to be alone in our experiences, both triumphs and hardships.

This softness and power is represented in my floral paintings through expressive brushstrokes, wiggly lines, and color. I combine these elements with supportive sayings and uplifting quotes to recognize and emphasize our shared journeys. My work is primarily affordable small scale prints and greeting cards to empower the genuine connection to our work, our relationships, and ourselves.
